The RN for the Medical Early Response Intervention Team (MERIT) at UofL Health is responsible for leading clinical bedside emergencies and optimizing code responses to improve patient outcomes. This role involves collaboration with healthcare teams, conducting comprehensive patient assessments, administering medications, and mentoring nursing staff. The MERIT nurse plays a crucial role in preventing patient decompensation and reducing unplanned ICU returns through proactive interventions and follow-ups.

  • Conduct systematic, continuous and comprehensive assessments of patient health status from admission to discharge.
  • Administer medications per licensure authority and document administration in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to plan care using current scientific knowledge and care standards.
  • Construct individualized, age-specific plans for optimal patient and family outcomes.
  • Implement nursing care interventions to meet patient and family-centered healthcare needs.
  • Evaluate care by performing regular reviews of patient/family responses to interventions.
  • Recognize care variances and take steps to prevent or intervene with potential adverse events.
  • Competently assess, conduct, and evaluate patient and family teaching throughout the care process.
  • Track and trend quality and patient safety data.
  • Serve as an advocate for the patient and family, respecting their rights and preferences.
  • Licensed or eligible for license in Kentucky
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • 1+ year critical care or emergency department experience
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) upon hire or must be obtained within 1 year of hire
