Neuroscience nurses provide care for patients with various illnesses of the brain and nervous system in a 32-bed neuro-medical unit. Patient diagnoses include CVA, TIA’s, Parkinson’s disease, Seizures, Multiple sclerosis, and other Neurological disorders. Nurses will also care for general medical surgical patients. The unit includes 12 telemetry beds for patients requiring close cardiac and neurological monitoring. It is a Level II trauma center, recognized for clinical excellence and innovation in orthopedics, neurosciences, women’s health, heart & vascular, and cancer care. The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge patients. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures, recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning the plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family, documenting education and learning appropriately in the health record.
