Responsible for unit operation, scheduling, position control, staffing and coordination of the quality improvement process. Applies advanced, broad-based knowledge of nursing practice and theory, as well as advanced knowledge of techniques of supervision, management and leadership as applied to specific nursing responsibilities. Accountabilities 1. Direct the development, implementation and evaluation of unit/departmental goals, objectives, policies, procedures and standards of care which contribute to the achievement of patient care, strategic plan and care delivery model. Assist Director with evaluation of service area outcomes.2. Coordinate and facilitate service area activities and overall functioning of unit. Assign, direct and review the work of subordinate supervisors/other nursing personnel, work methods, procedures, work flow and standards for quality and quantity of work, including staffing standards. Manage staffing and scheduling functions to achieve unit objectives, cost effective staffing and productivity targets.3. Utilize aggregate data for operational decision making to improve efficiencies in delivery of care.4. Assist Director with the budget process through resource identification and service area needs. Prepare budgets reflecting needed expenditures and operating income of all assigned functions. Take appropriate corrective action to ensure operations are managed within approved budgets. Report budget variances to the Director.5. Assist and encourage staff participation in problem identification, formulation of plans and initiation and evaluation of improvement measures. Support the implementation of changes related to the current health care environment.6. Assess, plan, direct and evaluate educational and clinical professional development programs for assigned area or program to provide optimal patient care.7. Facilitate staff and management team communication amongst and between service area members to deliver customer satisfaction and service efficiency.8. Ensure operational functions are in compliance with professional practice, licensure, accreditation and regulatory standards.9. Ensure the implementation and evaluation of the unit's Performance Improvement/Risk Management/Safety Program.10. Demonstrate initiative for acquiring continuous training and education, including role specific requirements/competencies.11. Maintain and apply knowledge of appropriate regulatory requirement (The Joint Commission, Title 22, Cobra, etc.) at the point of service.12. Directly responsible (with support from Human Resources) for employee engagement and people management processes including interviewing and selection, time and attendance approval, providing timely feedback and performance evaluations, employee development, employee retention, disciplinary actions and terminations.13. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE) or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) OR other healthcare related Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in the service area and leadership ability required
  • 3 years of relevant experience in the healthcare industry or a healthcare setting required
  • Previous leadership experience in the healthcare industry or a healthcare setting required
  • BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • RN - Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work within the state of California required
