About The Position

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Responsible for the direct medical supervision of all children assigned to his/her supervision including implementing and maintaining adequate standards of care for the adolescent children as stated by the organization and the State of Georgia. The Registered Nurse is a professional who requires the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment. This position is of a predominately intellectual and varied nature with output that is impossible to standardize.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Must have current license to practice nursing in the State of Georgia.
  • Be trained and/or certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
  • Be able to effectively use DBT in the therapeutic treatment of children and their families/caretakers.
  • Must submit to an annual physical exam.
  • Must be able to meet the following essential requirements:
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs. with assistance as per ESI Guidelines.
  • At times, on limited basis (during emergency situations), be able to endure long hours of work periods with limited rest and/or sleep.
  • Be highly alert with very quick reflexes to responded to emergency situations with children.
  • Must not have a record of a felony or misdemeanor convictions.
  • Must demonstrate adequate writing skills.
  • Tasks may require exposure to blood tissue or bodily fluids.
  • Must understand and follow pertinent OSHA and other safety regulations and guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Two to three years, preferred in a similar environment (school work study programs may apply).

Responsibilities

  • In the care of children at Hillside, the RN is responsible for implementing and maintaining adequate standards of residential care for children as stated by the organization and the State of Georgia.
  • Accurate and timely entry of all leaves and discharges into Avatar. (if applicable)
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate total nursing child care according to the child’s individualized treatment plan.
  • Administer all children’s medications and medical treatments according to physician’s orders.
  • Monitor all child response to medications and/or treatments.
  • Ensure that proper clinical record and pharmacy documentation is maintained as required.
  • Responsible for monitoring the physical health and hygiene of each child; including assessment of all physical injuries and complaints for appropriate referral or disposition.
  • Report all forms of suspected physical and verbal abuse to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Communicate with the pharmacy regarding medications.
  • Communicate in an effective and efficient manner with physicians, agencies, visitors and other Hillside personnel.
  • Participate in professional growth and development opportunities for self and training for others.
  • Maintains, reviews and audits the medical record to ensure accuracy and thoroughness of documentation.
  • Maintain acceptable standards of performance.
  • Provide medication/health education to clients and families as needed.
  • Monitor client during emergency safety interventions and complete required assessments/documentation.
  • Ensure Hillside Accessibility Plan is adhered to by assuring the removal of barriers to the greatest extent possible that may hinder those served, staff and/or other stakeholders.
  • Be trained in the ESI program and techniques. Be able to use the techniques safely and effectively.
  • Understands the developmental milestones of children and adolescents.
  • The Registered Nurse is expected to perform the aforementioned duties and other duties as deemed necessary by leadership with team support and spirit.
