This Registered Staff Nurse position is responsible for providing comprehensive care to obstetrical patients, ensuring quality patient care through the nursing process. The role involves assessing patient needs, formulating and implementing care plans, and collaborating with healthcare providers to deliver individualized care. The nurse will also participate in performance improvement activities and contribute to the professional growth of the nursing department.

  • Collect and document all data pertinent to each patient's actual and potential needs within twenty-four (24) hours of admission.
  • Document and report significant findings of ongoing patient assessment.
  • Formulate the patient plan of care based on acceptable standards of practice.
  • Communicate the patient plan of care through shift reports and other established procedures.
  • Plan individualized patient care using nursing theory in collaboration with patients and other healthcare providers.
  • Initiate patient plan of care using assessment data upon admission based on age-specific needs.
  • Incorporate nursing diagnosis specific to the patient's actual problems/needs into the care plan.
  • Implement the patient's plan of care in collaboration with patients, family members, and significant others.
  • Formulate discharge plans within twenty-four (24) hours of admission and as part of the revision process.
  • Evaluate outcomes of patient care and nursing interventions to changing patient situations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in administering treatments, procedures, and equipment appropriate to the unit/department.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities by evaluating standards of care and initiating revisions as necessary.
  • Attend all mandatory Hospital/Nursing Department in-service training sessions and meetings.
  • Present one (1) patient care conference and one (1) in-service training session relevant to the unit per year.
  • Actively participate in 75% of staff meetings and Maternal Child Health Committee Meetings.
  • Identify own limitations in skills and knowledge and seek guidance when needed.
  • Participate in decision-making processes in one committee or one department-based project.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and organize own patient care effectively.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school required.
  • Current, valid Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required.
  • BLS/CPR certification required within one week of hire.
  • NRP certification required upon hire.
  • Breastfeeding-related certification required within one year of hire.
  • At least two (2) years of prior Labor and Delivery experience preferred.
  • One (1) year of prior, related medical/surgical experience preferred.
  • ACLS certification recommended.
