About The Position

The Grosse Pointe Hospital Family Birth Center/Women’s Health Unit is comprised of 11 LDRP rooms, a Triage room, and a Natural Birth Suite. This Natural Birth Suite is used often by Nurse Midwives and patients who want a low intervention birth experience. Adjacent to the FBC is a 9-bed unit that cares for gynecologic and medical patients, readmitted post-partum patients, newborns less than 28 days old, and low risk ante-partum patients. The unit is committed to professional, safe patient-family centered care, with an Obstetrician and Pediatrician residing on the floor 24/7. Grosse Pointe Hospital is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the nation, is a Magnet-designated facility, and provides exceptional nursing and advanced care services. It houses The James and Patricia Anderson Surgical Center and the Cotton Family Birth Center, which has received the Baby Friendly designation by Baby-Friendly USA.

Requirements

  • Associates in Nursing Required
  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years if new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
  • AHA, ARC, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) Required
  • NRP within 6 months of hire/transfer
  • EFM Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification within 1 year
  • 1 Year RN experience

Nice To Haves

  • Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years
  • Prefer L&D, NICU or Mother Baby Care RN experience

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge, under the ANA scope of practice.
  • Provide quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures, recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.
  • Partner with and utilize patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care.
  • Develop teaching strategies for patient/family and document education and learning appropriately in health record.
