About The Position

Big Bend Hospice (BBH) is your “Hometown Hospice” providing compassionate end-of-life care for over 40 years to the Big Bend region. Guided by our values of integrity, respect, and excellence, we are seeking an experienced PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at our inpatient centers, The First Commerce Center for Compassionate Care and Dozier House. The ideal candidate is a compassionate and dedicated PRN Registered Nurse (RN) who is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals at the end of life. They actively support and promote the organization's philosophy and mission, ensuring that every patient receives care that upholds dignity, comfort, and respect during their final stages.

Requirements

  • Must have an active Florida RN License
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required
  • Ability to handle stress and long shifts.
  • Ability to remain calm and troubleshoot/handle patient/family crisis situations.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to make decisions based on the expectations of supervisors.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software including an EMR system.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is preferred
  • Hospice, Home Health, Oncology, or ICU experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the hospice philosophy.
  • Understand the disease process progresses.
  • Providing comfort care to actively dying patients.
  • Educate patients and families regarding death and dying.
  • Possess critical thinking skills to clarify goals, examine assumptions, discern hidden values, evaluate evidence, accomplish action, and assess conclusions.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal relationships with patients, families, co-workers, and other health team members.
  • Communicates with medical providers in a clear and concise manner.
  • Assists patients, families, colleagues, and self in coping with suffering, grief, loss, and bereavement in end-of-life care.
  • Shows commitment to learning and professional development.
  • Applies knowledge gained from palliative care research to end-of-life education and care.
  • Utilizes electronic medical records and other electronic devices to their fullest potential.
  • Follows rounding protocol to check on patient needs and well-being.
  • Greets the patient and any visitors and explains the rationale for interventions.
  • Addresses the 3 P’s during patient assessments: positioning, potty (personal needs), and pain.
  • Actively participates in interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings; is punctual and comes prepared to discuss plans of care for assigned patients.
  • Proactively apply pain and symptom management principles to nursing interventions for quality patient care.
  • Provides active listening and frequently interacts with patients and visitors.
