The IR/Medical Imaging RN is an integral part of the Radiology Team. The major goal of the Radiology nurse is to provide exceptional quality nursing care to outpatients and inpatients in the radiology department. The SMC RN provides nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols already developed for the healthcare organization. Requirements

  • ACLS must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • BCLS must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Clear and active SC or compact state nursing license
  • Associate Degree
  • Previous IR, ER, Critical Care or Imaging nursing experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses plans and evaluates the nursing care needs of the patient before, during and after the invasive procedures.
  • Provides nursing care to the patient undergoing the invasive procedures.
  • Assists Radiologists during examinations and procedures.
  • Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
  • Instructs and educates patients and families.
  • Provides age appropriate and culturally appropriate care.
  • Orients and mentors new staff members.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Follows hospital policies around administration of sedation meds in compliance with competencies and licensure.
