About The Position

Welcome to 7 South, a 22-bed Progressive Neuroscience Unit at the heart of Butterworth Hospital, Corewell Health’s flagship facility. We specialize in stroke and adult epilepsy care, offering advanced treatments as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and a leader in EEG monitoring, including surgical implantation. This is a high-acuity, fast-paced inpatient unit with a strong reputation for teamwork, collaboration, and a supportive culture. You’ll lead a dedicated team of approximately 40 staff members, including RNs, Nurse Techs, and Unit Secretaries, many of whom are early-career nurses eager for mentorship and growth. This unit specializes in the care of stroke and adult epilepsy patients. As an accredited comprehensive stroke center, we can receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. Additionally, our epilepsy program performs a range of EEG monitoring from routine up to surgical implantation. This is a specialized unit, and there are a variety of conditions patients can have in addition to their stroke. Teamwork on this unit is known to be exceptional. Members of 7 South team assist each other in any way they can giving this unit a very welcoming and warm atmosphere. As a night Inpatient Supervisor, you’ll be both a clinical leader and a mentor, balancing bedside care with administrative responsibilities. You’ll serve as a clinical resource, coach, and guide for a team that thrives on learning and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Michigan RN license
  • NIH Stroke certification obtained within ninety days of hire
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Saving certification

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in nursing
  • 1+ year of related clinical experience in area of specialty.
  • 1+ year of experience leading teams or in a supervisory capacity

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team of ~40 staff across multiple roles: RN's, NT's, and unit secretaries
  • Provide clinical support, mentorship, and coaching—especially for newer nurses
  • Act as a clinical resource for stroke and epilepsy care
  • Oversee unit operations, staffing, and performance improvement
  • Collaborate on program development, goal setting, and project execution
  • Participate in weekend rotations every 6–9 weeks
  • Work an on-site night schedule: two 12-hour shifts (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) and two 8-hour shifts weekly, blending bedside care, leadership, and administrative duties
