About The Position

The University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the Pulmonary & Medical Intermediate Care unit (D6/5) at University Hospital in Madison, WI. This position is a permanent role with a 90% full-time equivalent (FTE) schedule, primarily during evening and night shifts, including a rotation for weekends and holidays. The unit consists of 29 beds, where nurses provide specialized nursing care to acutely ill adult patients with complex medical conditions, including those with Cystic Fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, and post-lung transplant care. Nurses in this role will be part of an interdisciplinary team that emphasizes high standards of patient care and effective communication. The position requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as nurses will be responsible for managing patients who may experience hemodynamic instability and require both general and intermediate care. The unit is designed to facilitate smooth transitions for patients moving from critical care to progressive care, ensuring continuity of care and support. The ideal candidate will possess a strong desire to provide high-quality care in a learning environment, with opportunities for professional growth and development throughout the year. Nurses are encouraged to pursue certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and specialty certifications in Medical-Surgical and/or Progressive Care Nursing.
