The University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the Pulmonary and Medical Intermediate Care (IMC) unit at University Hospital in Madison, WI. This position is part of a 29-bed unit that specializes in providing comprehensive nursing care to acutely ill adult patients with complex medical conditions, including those with multiple comorbidities and hemodynamic instability. The unit caters to specialty populations such as patients diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), pulmonary hypertension (PH), and those who have undergone lung transplants. As a Registered Nurse in this role, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team that is committed to maintaining high standards of patient care and effective communication. The nurses on this unit are highly skilled and adaptable, trained to meet the needs of both general care and intermediate care patients. The unit is divided into 15 beds dedicated to general care and 14 beds for IMC patients. You will excel in collaborating with care teams to ensure smooth transitions for patients moving between critical care and acute progressive care units. Critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality care in a learning environment are essential for success in this role. The unit offers numerous opportunities for professional growth and development throughout the year. Nurses are encouraged to pursue certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and specialty certifications in Medical-Surgical and/or Progressive Care Nursing. This position is a 90% FTE role with a day/evening shift schedule, including every other weekend and holiday rotation. A competitive starting pay is offered, with relevant work experience considered, along with a shift/weekend differential.
