The Registered Nurse (RN) performs the primary functions of a registered nurse in assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of all assigned patients. The RN supports the care of the patient and assesses and addresses the needs of the patient/family, working collaboratively with other interprofessional team members in resolving patient/family problems, concerns and issues. They also collaborate with other departments as needed to establish the patient/family treatment plan. The position involves individualizing, implementing, evaluating or updating the plan of care and patient educational needs regarding vascular access. The RN must possess the ability to complete intravenous insertion and assessment, including peripheral and central line access, and utilize equipment such as point of care ultrasound equipment and intravenous infusion pumps as appropriate. They demonstrate proper interpretation of department specific policies and related laboratory results to safely manage specific patient needs. Responsibilities include implementing, monitoring and recording patient care, communicating patient condition as appropriate, and taking appropriate actions to unanticipated changes in patient condition. The RN utilizes the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to access treatment and therapy plans and applies evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge to nursing practice, ensuring care is delivered based on patient’s age-specific and clinical needs. The role requires working in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner, and performing other duties as assigned.
