About The Position

We are seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Registered Nurse (RN) Infection Preventionist to lead and support infection prevention and control initiatives across our healthcare facility. This role is responsible for surveillance, education, policy development, and ensuring compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards to promote a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Connecticut.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention standards specific to long-term care (CDC, CMS, and state regulations).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and staff education skills.
  • Ability to conduct audits, analyze data, and implement improvement strategies.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Infection Control
  • Experience with outbreak management and NHSN reporting (if applicable).
  • Experience with QAPI programs and regulatory surveys.
  • Familiarity with antibiotic stewardship programs in long-term care settings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program in accordance with CDC, CMS, and state regulations for long-term care.
  • Conduct ongoing surveillance for healthcare-associated infections and communicable diseases among residents and staff.
  • Lead outbreak investigations and implement containment and prevention strategies (e.g., influenza, COVID-19, etc).
  • Educate and train nursing staff, CNAs, and ancillary departments on infection prevention practices to ensure infection prevention standards are maintained facility-wide.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and survey requirements (CMS and CT-DPH)
  • Maintain antibiotic stewardship practices
  • Monitor adherence to infection control policies
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) meetings and present infection control data and trends.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and prepare reports for leadership and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Serve as the facility subject matter expert for infection prevention and communicable disease management
