About The Position

As an ICU Nurse at St. John's Regional Medical Center, you will monitor critically ill and unstable patients following extensive injury, surgery, or life-threatening disease. Each shift begins with a report from a nursing teammate, followed by rounds. You will provide continuous care and perform procedures as outlined in the care plan, which may include assisting physicians with procedures like chest tube or central line insertion, providing wound care, ensuring patients undergo MRI or CT scans, or administering medications. The role requires strong multitasking abilities and quick reaction skills, demanding focus and attentiveness to continuously monitor patients. You will also serve as a patient advocate, supporting their best interests when they are unable to. Sound judgment during emergencies and rapid response are crucial for potential advancement.

Requirements

  • Current California Registered Nurse license
  • Current BLS & ACLS certifications
  • 1-3 years nursing experience in a Telemetry or DOU, or six (6) months in specialty area experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Other certification as specified by area of practice preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, and implements nursing care while ensuring patient comfort
  • Anticipates, identifies, and responds to informational and emotional needs of patients and families
  • Guides and directs healthcare personnel (i.e., Patient Care Technicians) in caring for patients
  • Maintains knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices) Utilizes safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms with necessary
  • Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury)
  • Assists with patient care duties/tasks (i.e., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, and hygiene)
