About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) working full-time night shifts plays a critical role in delivering specialized, high-quality care to critically ill patients. This position requires vigilant monitoring of patients' conditions, rapid assessment, and timely intervention to stabilize and improve patient outcomes. The RN ICU Night Nurse collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans. This role demands a strong ability to manage complex medical equipment and administer advanced treatments while maintaining compassionate patient and family communication. Ultimately, the RN ICU Night Nurse ensures patient safety and supports recovery during the vulnerable nighttime hours when acute care needs are often most critical.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Texas.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or equivalent from an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in an Intensive Care Unit or critical care setting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) current certifications
  • Ability to work full-time night shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled.
  • Strong background in patient and family education within critical care environments.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Meditech or Epic.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) or equivalent specialty certification.
  • Additional certification such as Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex ventilator settings and hemodynamic monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor and assess critically ill patients’ vital signs, neurological status, and overall condition during night shifts.
  • Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and advanced life support interventions as prescribed and according to ICU protocols.
  • Operate and troubleshoot specialized ICU equipment such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, and infusion pumps.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to update and execute patient care plans based on evolving clinical status.
  • Document all nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely in electronic health records.
  • Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families, addressing concerns and explaining treatment plans.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, including code blue situations, and participate in resuscitation efforts as needed.
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection control policies and safety standards to protect patients and staff.
