About The Position

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join their Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital located in Edina, MN. This multi-diagnosis Intensive Care Unit cares for critically ill patients 18 years and older, seeing approximately 8-10 open heart surgical patients per week, as well as other major surgical patients, acute respiratory failure, OD / withdrawal, medical and surgical neuro, and minimal trauma. The unit provides Telemedicine ICU services for the system and cares for patients with IABP, Impella, hypothermia therapy, and CRRT, though patients requiring LVAD or ECMO are transferred to the University of MN. The ICU is a 23-bed unit with an average daily census of 20-21 patients and has 110 FTEs/150 employees. Approximately half of the RN staff has acquired an advanced certification in Critical Care Nursing, and there is 24/7 Intensivist coverage. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient populations, performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines, and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities as appropriate.

Requirements

  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
  • Current RN ICU or one year RN IMC experience in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
  • Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care
  • Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
  • Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care
  • Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP)
