The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Electrophysiology (EP)/Cardiac Device Lab supports patients and physicians in the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute’s outpatient department. This role provides specialized nursing care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias and implantable cardiac devices in ambulatory and inpatient settings. A caregiver in this position works four 10-hour days from 7:30am - 6:00pm or 6:30am - 5:00pm. There are No weekends/holidays or on-call requirements. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic services to hospitalized patients in various healthcare settings. Assess patients, complete nursing assessments, document findings in patient records, and notify physicians of abnormal findings. Perform telephone triage and call rotations. Perform nursing procedures and administer treatments and medications. Establish care plans in collaboration with patients, families and the health care team. Coordinate ongoing care, identify discharge needs, and facilitate discharge planning. Evaluate, initiate and maintain standards of care. Educate patients and families. Cover other nursing roles in the department.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing ( Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
One year of recent experience as an RN or Licensed RN with at least 2 years of LPN experience within the same Cleveland Clinic procedural department (may substitute for required RN experience)
In areas performing moderate sedation procedures must have current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Certification within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

Two years of recent cardiac experience as an RN
BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
Experience in Cardiology

Responsibilities

Perform interrogation, interpretation, and programming of implantable cardiac devices, including pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices, S-ICDs, and implantable loop recorders.
Monitor device function and patient status; promptly escalate urgent or abnormal findings to providers.
Apply clinical judgment and critical thinking to patient care decisions within scope of practice, using established standards, protocols, and clinical data.
Collaborate with electrophysiologists and the care team to support safe, efficient patient care.
Provide nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic services to hospitalized patients in various healthcare settings.
