About The Position

Dialysis nurses provide care to all ages and a diversified population ranging from acute to chronically ill patients while adhering to strict, dynamic regulatory standards. During the hemodialysis (HD) procedure, the nurse is managing the patients clinical status, the venous access, the infusion of blood components or specialized fluids, and oversees the technical aspects of the HD machines. Additional responsibilities include providing patient/family/public education, overseeing dialysis technicians in the performance of dialysis from start to finish, performing surveillance and testing of dialysis water treatment equipment and dialysis water (such as chlorine, hardness, conductivity, water cultures), and participating in quality improvement activities to include collection of data for the dialysis unit Quality Assurance Improvement (QAI) plan. Function/Duties of Position The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN's care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. Requirements

  • One-year experience in adult dialysis procedures required or One-year experience in dialysis, including past dialysis technician experience
  • Associate Degree of Nursing awarded from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA).
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon RN license by 1 week before start date.
  • BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • BLS must not expire during orientation or probation period, and must have the same expiration date (upload documentation with online application)
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN), Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) preferred
  • Experience in pediatric dialysis procedures preferred
