About The Position

The Forensic Nurse will provide compassionate and timely care to patients who have experienced various forms of violence and abuse. This role involves conducting medical-forensic exams, documenting injuries, and coordinating care with other agencies to ensure comprehensive support for victims. The nurse will also participate in legal proceedings and maintain competency through ongoing professional development.

Requirements

  • Licensed by the Ohio Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan and ability to assess patient status.

  • 41 hour Adult/Adolescent IAFN SANE training (Can be provided)
  • 43 hour Pediatric IAFN SANE training (Can be provided)
  • 2 years of RN experience
  • TNCC certification
  • ACLS certification
  • PALS certification

Responsibilities

  • Displays Service Excellence by promoting patient satisfaction through the organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Triages patients to determine the necessity of a medical exam before the forensic exam.
  • Coordinates care among agencies assisting sexual assault victims and arranges referrals for medical and psychological follow-up.
  • Performs complete physical and forensic evidence collection examinations, including trauma assessments and forensic specimen collection.
  • Documents detailed injuries accurately, supported by photographic evidence.
  • Maintains chain of custody during medical forensic exams and adheres to evidence protocols.
  • Maintains competency by actively performing cases with no lapse greater than six months.
  • Participates in monthly quality assurance chart and photograph review processes as determined by the forensic nursing program.
  • Adheres to all administrative, clinical, and employment policies and procedures of the forensic nursing program.
  • Commits to covering a minimum number of shifts, holiday coverage, and other scheduling requirements as determined by the forensic nursing program.
  • Participates in professional development activities, including staff meetings, conferences, and in-services.
  • Provides testimony as a fact witness in judicial processes and coordinates with attorneys during legal proceedings.
  • Travels to Bluffton Hospital for patient care as needed.
  • Administers appropriate prophylactic medications.
