About The Position

The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) provides timely, non-judgmental, compassionate, and trauma-informed care to any victim and/or perpetrator of violence, both intentional and unintentional. Essential Responsibilities: Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position. Perform acts that are within the scope of practice as defined by the applicable licensing board. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients as described in unit/department-based competencies, policies, and procedures. Accurately assess patient needs and develop/implement/review/maintain a comprehensive care plan. Evaluate and provide care as directed to achieve desired patient outcomes for patients newborn thru geriatric. Perform quality assurance functions to include maintenance of chain of evidence, documentation appropriateness, referrals, preparing and interpreting reports, and following mandatory reporting requirements. Educate the patient/family on physical, emotional and psychosocial aspects of examination, treatment, and care. Coordinate the preparedness of documents, testimony, and case facts to be presented as necessary. Complete timely and accurate documentation as per Health System/affiliate policy. Meet scheduling requirements, including nights, weekends, holidays, and call. Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values. Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI). Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited RN program.
  • Completion of a 64 hour course or two 40 hour IAFN SANE training courses within six months of hire date.
  • Minimum of one year of acute care experience.
  • Current BLS/CPR card from approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first.
  • Current ACLS and PALS within six months of hire date.
  • Registered Nurse credentialed from the Kansas Board of Nursing or a compact state.
