About The Position

Dignity Health - Mercy Hospital, founded in 1910, is a 229-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located in Bakersfield, California. It serves nearly 90,000 patients annually and offers a full complement of services including Level II NICU, cancer care, women’s health, and orthopedics. Mercy Hospital Downtown and Mercy Hospital Southwest are recognized as LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality High Performers and Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Centers. Mercy Hospital Downtown features the only inpatient Oncology Unit in Bakersfield, while Mercy Hospital Southwest has the only Obstetric Emergency Department. The registered nurse in the Float Pool is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care of each assigned patient, providing direct patient care, and supervising the activities of nursing staff members.

Requirements

CA RN License
BLS (AHA required)
ACLS
Quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire, required through resources internal to the facility

Responsibilities

Take primary responsibility to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care of each assigned patient
Provide direct patient care
Supervise the activities of nursing staff members
Anticipate patients needs
Follow-up on all care related activities and assure all physician orders are accurately transcribed and carried out in a timely manner
Coordinate the plan of care
Conduct patient teaching specific to disease entity and home management
Actively participate in assuring care continuum
Collaborate with other nursing and ancillary services to assure seamless communication and uninterrupted patient care
