About The Position

The Registered Nurse Float position involves working in Critical Care and Med/Surg Units at Swedish Hospital in Chicago, IL. This full-time role requires rotating shifts, including both day and night hours, and mandates working every other weekend and rotating holidays. The Float Pool Staff Nurses are responsible for providing high-quality, individualized, goal-directed care to patients and their families, adhering to the nursing philosophy of the hospital. The role includes utilizing the nursing process for assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, maintaining competency in current standards, and contributing to the professional development of peers. The position also emphasizes safety, ethical practice, and thorough documentation.

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience as a staff nurse with critical care experience.
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Demonstrates mastery of nursing skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Current Illinois Nursing licensure.
  • American Heart Association CPR Certification.
  • American Heart Association ACLS Certification.
  • PALS, NRP may be required within six months depending on the unit requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Float across all Swedish Critical Care and Med-Surg units.
  • Provide high-quality, individualized, goal-directed care for patients and their families.
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care.
  • Maintain competency reflective of current standards of practice.
  • Guide and supervise nursing personnel.
  • Promote safety measures to prevent patient and staff injuries.
  • Maintain a safe therapeutic working environment.
  • Complete documentation thoroughly and timely.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
