About The Position

Provides assistance to the surgeon during surgical procedures including exposure, hemostasis, suturing, tying, tissue manipulation, closing wounds, and applying dressings. Collaborates with the surgical team, assumes responsibility for the care and safety of patients during surgical procedures. Facilitates communication between the surgeon, perioperative team, and other hospital departments.

Requirements

Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Applicants with an Associate's degree will be considered but are required to obtain BSN within three (3) years of employment
Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
Completion of an accredited program for First Assisting
Certified Nurse in the Operating Room (CNOR) through the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) is required.
Completion of required clinical experience during education process is required
Possess manual dexterity for nursing/assisting skills
Ability to work irregular hours
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
Maintains current knowledge of nursing practices/procedures related to care of surgical patients
Ability to work independently
Ability to foster good working relationships with other departments and OR staff members, and to work closely with all members of the peri-operative team, physicians, patients/families, etc. to assure optimal peri-operative nursing care.
Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
