The RN First Assistant (RNFA) functions as the surgical first assistant under the direction and supervision of the surgeon during the intra-operative phase of surgery. The RNFA will also serve in the role of a Registered Nurse, according to the needs of the department. The OR First Surgical Assist assists the team in providing quality individualized patient care under the direct and indirect supervision of the attending physician and in a cohesive manner with all surgical staff. The First Surgical Assistant will demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of the patients served. Additionally, the Surgical Assistant performs other responsibilities as assigned. The incumbent in this position will support the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public, and co-workers.
