About The Position

Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking an experienced and adaptable Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team on a PRN basis. The ED RN provides urgent and emergent nursing care to patients presenting with a wide range of conditions. Responsibilities include triage, assessment, stabilization, monitoring, patient education, and collaboration with providers to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes. This role is ideal for nurses who thrive in high-acuity environments and are confident managing rapidly changing patient conditions.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program
  • Minimum two (2) years of Emergency Department experience required
  • Current Colorado RN license in good standing
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • TNCC certification required
  • ACLS certification required (or within 3 months of hire)
  • PALS certification required (or within 3 months of hire)
  • Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage high-acuity and rapidly changing patient conditions
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical systems
  • Physically demanding role requiring standing, lifting, and patient positioning

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • CEN certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Triage patients using Emergency Severity Index (ESI) guidelines
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and reassessments
  • Initiate and manage emergency nursing interventions to stabilize patients
  • Monitor patient response to treatment and communicate changes promptly
  • Administer medications and IV therapies safely and accurately
  • Perform procedures including IV starts, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, splinting, and more
  • Assist with emergency procedures and trauma care
  • Support airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, and critical care interventions
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
  • Provide clear communication during handoffs using SBAR
  • Educate patients and families regarding care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements
  • Follow National Patient Safety Goals and infection prevention protocols
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to other staff when needed
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, stocked, and ready clinical environment
  • Participate in continuous learning and department training initiatives
