Nursing education is a practice specialty that seeks to improve the health of the community by enhancing the professional practice and competence of registered nurses and other nursing personnel. The surgical/procedural nurse educator is a valued member of the Nursing Practice and Development team. Partnering with educator peers and operational leaders, this role supports the educational needs of nursing across Corewell Health West through standardization, innovation, and the application of evidence‑based practice. The primary work location is Grand Rapids, with occasional travel to community hospitals. The ideal candidate for this position has a background in intraoperative nursing and demonstrates the flexibility to support and provide education across additional procedural areas as needed. Using tools of consulting, mentoring, coaching and interprofessional collaboration, the nurse educator facilitates the professional role development and growth of nurses and other healthcare personnel along the continuum from novice to expert. Functions in the roles of change agent, mentor, facilitator of learning, leader, champion of scientific inquiry (application of research, evidence based practice and improvement science), and partner for clinical practice transitions. Nurse educators are REQUIRED to obtain their nursing administration or professional/specialty certification within 12 months of assuming the role, or within 12 months of achieving eligibility to sit for the exam if not eligible upon hire in to the role.
