About The Position

The Educational Specialist is responsible for improving the quality of patient care delivered through education and collaboration with the health care team. As a Registered Nurse, this position plans, implements and evaluates orientation, in-service education and continuing education activities for Covenant at Home. The Education Specialist acts as a change agent, professional role model and patient advocate. Demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Current registered nurse license with the State of Michigan required.
  • Three (3) years of clinical experience in home health and/or hospice care required.
  • Computer competency, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work with the public and have the ability to be tactful in often hectic and stressful situations
  • Sound judgement in handling confidential or sensitive issues and material.
  • Ability to educate, develop and lead teams.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Constant standing and talking.
  • Frequent sitting, walking, twisting, reaching, handling, feeling, hearing, tasting, smelling, near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
  • Frequent lifting 0-25 lbs.
  • Occasional reclining, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and finger dexterity.
  • Occasional lifting 26-100 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, plans, implements and evaluates core orientation and training.
  • Develops simulation training tools with the Covenant at Home Sim Lab for staff growth and development.
  • Maintains staff competency and meets joint visit requirements.
  • Oversees nursing and therapy students.
  • Collaborates with health care team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate in-service education programs.
  • Formulates and or reviews policies and procedures.
  • Provides/coordinates and evaluates programs designed to meet regulatory agency educational requirements.
  • Participates in clinical research
  • Provides/coordinates and evaluates continuing education that meets the ACHC criteria.
  • Participates in agency-wide continuous quality improvement activities to improve performance and patient outcomes.
  • Designs, plans, implements and evaluates programs to validate staff competence and facilitates completion of the competency checklists. Assists in coding clinical records as necessary.
  • Collaborates with others to develop, implement, communicate, educate and evaluate standards of care.
  • Participates as a leader or member of key departmental and hospital committees.
  • Serves as a consultant for educational activities within Covenant HealthCare System.
  • Maintains professional development through seminars, workshops, in-service activities and current professional literature.
  • Demonstrates commitment to unsurpassed level of Customer Service; serves as a role model.
  • Contributes to organization success targets for patient satisfaction and net operating margin.
  • Supports community education including services, trainings for SNF and ALF facility partners.
  • Provides clinical support as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
