About The Position

The RN Education Coordinator for Inpatient Nursing Units at Mercyhealth is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing educational and orientation programs for nursing staff. This role supports the Javon Bea Hospital campuses and focuses on enhancing the professional development of nursing personnel through various educational initiatives. The coordinator will also mentor new employees, conduct needs assessments, and implement innovative instructional methods to meet the educational needs of the nursing department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program required.
  • Master's degree (MSN) preferred.
  • Two or more years of RN experience, or one or more years in a specialty area.
  • Licensed as an RN in the state of practice.
  • Approved BLS certification required within 90 days.
  • Other certifications as per unit requirements (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP).
  • Computer skills including knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in education related to the Electronic Medical Record, focusing on clinical content.
  • Mentors new employees and new graduate nurses through support programs.
  • Conducts periodic educational needs assessments and develops programs based on identified needs.
  • Identifies clinical learning needs through observation, staff meetings, and partner input.
  • Creates an annual calendar of planned educational offerings in collaboration with unit leadership.
  • Promotes clinical ladder advancement and national certification attainment among partners.
  • Assists partners in portfolio development for national specialty certification.
  • Participates in unit-based meetings and shares learning opportunities.
  • Implements innovative instructional methods for educational needs.
  • Coordinates outside consultants and trainers for specific training topics.
  • Maintains class evaluations of instructors and trainers.
  • Assists in maintaining unit bulletin boards and obtaining CEUs for programs.
  • Collaborates to provide monthly newsletters and facilitates Evidence Based Practice initiatives.
  • Coordinates education for all components of the health system as requested.
  • Participates in the Education Team for house-wide education dissemination.
  • Collaborates in coordinating annual nursing documentation and skills fair.
  • Plans and hosts unit-based skills validations as appropriate.
  • Coordinates and participates in teaching programs for areas of expertise.
  • Participates in writing and updating policies/procedures.
  • Maintains records for mandatory certifications of staff.
