About The Position

A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient. The employee must be able to provide kind and compassionate care to patients, many of which may have significant cognitive and/or functional impairment with a variety of illnesses. The employee must have good assessment skills to gather information, relay relevant data to other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team, and participate in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan of care. The employee must possess communication skills to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, co-workers, ancillary departments, and community agencies; must possess supervision skills to assure that staff work efficiently to complete assignments in a timely manner, consistently delivers excellent care, and assures the smooth functioning of their shift and a smooth transition to the next shift to support the continuum of quality care. The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. The employee must have the ability to assess patients aged 15 and older and must be able to develop, implement, and evaluate the individualized plan of care. The employee must have the ability to administer pharmacological drugs as ordered, perform procedures, and operate equipment necessary for patient care as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee.
  • Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills.
  • Knowledge of organizational functions, policies, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of current trends and new developments in nursing.
