This position is responsible for planning, directing and operating the Progressive Care unit, Telemetry, and Monitored telemetry teams in accordance with the professional standards of the clinical disciplines, applicable regulatory requirements and strategic/business objectives of the organization. The Director provides strategic leadership in assessing, developing and implementing initiatives/activities which improve patient safety/quality, financial performance, maximize effective utilization of resources, enhance patient outcomes/service satisfaction of all identified customer groups and generate a competitive advantage for the organization. Developing and managing the operations, personnel and budgets for the assigned departments. Analyzing current/new service delivery models to develop change recommendations. Scheduling, processing/submission of payroll and mid-year/annual evaluations for all direct reports. Developing/implementing/monitoring quality improvement initiatives to enhance/streamline current procedures/processes and take advantage of organization initiatives. Establishing and ensuring that overall objectives relating to consistency of standards and customer service are achieved. Guides the staff in the implementation of current clinical evidenced based practices and maintains the associated competencies. Ensures optimal utilization of resources (including but not limited to staff, equipment, and supplies) and implements resources according to need. Performs other duties as assigned within scope of one’s practice as identified by the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, or their designee. Assures that staff is cognizant of principles, expectations and of the responsibility of all team members to support and foster them. Effectively adapts and adjusts to changing conditions, stressful situations, and the daily pressure of a dynamic system. Consistently maintains a positive attitude and identifies strategies that contribute to positive relationships within the institution, between physicians and staff, the multidisciplinary team, and administration. Seeks performance improvement opportunities and inspires creativity and innovation in process improvement. Strong articulation skills (verbal and written). Communicates relevant material to the ACNO or designee regarding progress with projects, status of the budget, staff morale, etc. Is open to suggestions and to new ways of approaching problem resolution. Demonstrates ability to anticipate budgetary needs and develop an appropriate budget. Monitors and maintains personnel and supply budget within targets. Analyzes and justifies variances. Demonstrated fiscal ability. Exercises judgment to reach decisions, considering individual needs and the good of the organization. Defends sound decisions with facts regardless of opposition and pressure. Works toward consensus whenever possible. Responds quickly and effectively in crisis situations. Objectively evaluates staff annually. Identifies employee opportunities for improvement and strengths, collaborating with the employee on identifying goals and a plan for attaining them. Assures that staff has opportunities for on-going education, annual competencies, and one to one supervision when warranted. Initiates Performance Improvement Plans and/or disciplinary actions to support clinical standards and hospital policies. Participates in professional organizations. Effectively uses and role models current management techniques and theories, encouraging the decision-making skills of staff members and providing insight and leadership in complex situations. Supervises the development of service policies, procedures, and operating guidelines. Collaborates with other services within the division. Ensures that information is disseminated to staff is monitored for effectiveness and changed as needed. Understands and enforces all hospital and personnel policies and procedures. Lead and/or serve on hospital and Patient Care Services committees, teams, and work groups as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required
  • Master’s degree or enrollment in master’s degree program within 3 years
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Florida
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as an RN in acute care setting
  • 3-5 years demonstrated leadership experience in a titled supervisory or managerial level role.
  • Ability to work effectively and creatively with others.
  • Ability to utilize process and management skills.
  • Ability to think clearly, plan well, and communicate so that others can follow.
  • Ability to handle stress, respond with maturity, and maintain a sense of perspective.
  • Ability to analyze data for patterns and opportunities.

  • Physical stamina necessary to spend long periods of time actively moving about the unit/hospital.
  • Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation
  • TB/PPD Surveillance Program
  • Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification
