A registered professional critical care nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient. Responsible for safely performing all forms of treatments and therapies that are done in the dialysis unit. A registered nurse in the dialysis unit must be familiar with treatment modalities of hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, apheresis, and continuous renal replacement therapy, have the skill to assess for complications and outcomes of each modality. Must be able to start, check, test and troubleshoot fixed and portable R.O. water treatment systems. Must have completed a critical care course and maintain ACLS, BLS certification. Must be available to take on call at least 2 times a week and work overtime to provide appropriate staffing for the unit and complete necessary patient treatments. Must be a resource to other units caring for patients with renal failure and be willing to travel to other units to access different types of dialysis catheters.
