About The Position

Join our Critical Care Float Pool and our team of flexible and highly trained nurses to provide care in the Med Surg, Cardiovascular, and Neuro ICUs. After six months, RNs receive training in the Emergency Department. Cross-training opportunities are also offered in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and select outpatient areas. This role is ideal for nurses who thrive in fast-paced environments and seek continuous professional growth. Expand your skills while making a meaningful impact across multiple critical care settings. Nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human response to actual or potential health problems. This includes establishing an intentional therapeutic relationship between a registered nurse and a patient and family. As a leader and the integrator of care, the professional nurse has the responsibility, authority, and accountability for planning, coordinating and evaluating the patient’s care needs. Provides nursing care across departments that provide critical care services. Provides specialized care to patients who are severely ill or injured. May practice in an intensive care unit or in a care area that requires the expertise of the critical care nurse.

Requirements

  • Tier 1: Current RN ICU Experience required– minimum of 6 months total
  • Tier 2: 6 months current RN ANW Telemetry experience OR 1 year current RN experience required in areas: Telemetry, PACU, ED
  • Tier 3: 1 year current Med Surg RN experience required
  • .6 FTE (48 hours per two-week pay period)
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Every weekend
  • Associate's or Vocational degree
  • 2 to 5 years RN experience
  • 0 to 2 years Med/Surgical experience at some regional sites
  • Licensed Registered Nurse – MN Board of Nursing required if working in state of MN upon hire / WI Department of Safety & Professional Services required if working in the state of WI upon hire
  • Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below: ◦ Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association ◦ Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross ◦ Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)
  • Allina in-house ACLS training required upon completion of orientation
  • Tier 3 - Multisource required if working on rapid response or code teams, or at regional sites
  • PALS - Pediatric Advance Life Support - Allina Health required depending on site, including regionals within 1 year

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 0 to 2 years critical care experience
  • Certified Critical Care RN - American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) preferred
  • ACLS/BLS
  • CMSRN Medical Surgical Nursing Certified preferred

Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs; identification of outcomes based on needs assessment; establishing the plan of care; supervising the progress; and modification of the plan of care as needed.
  • Maintains education and competencies to remain proficient to provide high quality patient care practice and skills.
  • Incorporates evidence-based nursing practice taking into consideration current statutes, rules and regulations when developing the plan of care.
  • Establishes, in the collaboration with the family and patient, realistic and measurable patient expected outcomes based on nursing diagnoses, patients present and potential capabilities, goals, available resources and plan for continuity of care.
  • Identifies outcomes that are age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic and attainable.
  • Coordinates, collaborates, and delegates appropriately to ensure care is provided in a safe, effective fashion.
  • Fulfills all organizational requirements.
  • Charge Nurse (only when acting in this role). ◦ Demonstrates ability to coordinate, delegate, and direct unit operation, collaborates effectively with unit staff, leadership and other disciplines.
  • Preceptor (only when acting in this role). ◦ Demonstrates ability to identify the orientee's learning needs, plans appropriate learning experiences and demonstrates ability to validate clinical competence of orientee.
