About The Position

Based on John Muir Health Nursing's Vision, the staff registered nurse (RN) is a licensed professional caregiver responsible for planning, delegating, and coordinating the nursing care of a group of patients during a designated time frame. This role adheres to the John Muir Medical Center Standards of Care, ANA's Standards of Practice and Professional Performance, and the California Nurse Practice Act, Title 22, and Title 16. The RN coordinates and provides care through the therapeutic use of self, nursing process, environment, and technology, in partnership and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members. Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
  • 2000 hours Nursing - Emergency Must be Obtained within last 3 years - Core Requirement
  • RN Registered Nursing - California Board of Nursing Required
  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association Required
  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Support - American Heart Association Required prior to completion of orientation to the assigned area OR ENPC Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course - Emergency Nurses Association Required prior to completion of orientation to the assigned area
  • Approved Cardiac Rhythm Test - Must Pass at time of hire (Required if hired after 11/15/2018) Required
  • NIHSS National Institute of Health Stroke Scale - Successful completion on an annual basis Required
  • Approved Cardiac Rhythm Test – Internal Candidates Must Pass Prior to Applying for Position (must be proctored in Human Resources) – Required

Nice To Haves

  • 6 Months Nursing - Acute Care Preferred
  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association Non-Core Requirement

Responsibilities

  • Planning, delegating, and coordinating the nursing care of a group of patients during a designated time frame utilizing the John Muir Medical Center Standards of Care, ANA's Standards of Practice and Professional Performance, and the California Nurse Practice Act, Title 22, and Title 16
  • Coordinating and providing care through the therapeutic use of self, nursing process, and the environment and technology, in partnership and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members
  • Managing the entire spectrum of care for patients receiving conscious sedation including but not limited to nerve blocks and cardioversion
  • Triage
  • Managing precipitous deliveries and care for the mother and newborn post-delivery
  • Stabilizing critically ill patients prior to disposition including but not limited to acute stroke (thromboembolic and hemorrhagic), acute STEMI, Sepsis, and respiratory distress
  • Functioning competently in the flow and resource roles
  • Assuming the role of a relief charge nurse
