About The Position

The RN Clinical Educator provides development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, preceptor, leader, and researcher for a specific unit/department. Supports the development of clinical team members through the facilitation of educational processes including needs assessment, learning development, planning, implementation, and evaluation to ensure initial and ongoing competency to improve and advance clinical care. Leads, plans, assesses, organizes, develops and implements educational programs designed to orient employees, improve job skills, and develop potential capabilities, to meet ThedaCare’s strategic plan and the training needs of the organization in partnership with System Education.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing or active enrollment in BSN program with completion date within 2 years required; master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years RN experience in area of specialty required.
  • Current valid license as a Registered Nurse in Wisconsin.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Ability to flex schedule to work off-shifts and weekends, depending on need
  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
  • Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
  • Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasional high noise level in work environment.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents.
  • Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients.
  • Position requires compliance with department specific competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Develops/coordinates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation while ensuring that educational programs focus on improving skills, knowledge retention, and patient care outcomes and are congruent with clinical needs.
  • Designs employee development offerings such as instructor led, webinars, computer-based training, and/or simulation programs, ensuring individual and organizational needs are met.
  • Conducts learner needs assessments for clinical team members to determine plan to address practice changes and meet high-risk/low-volume, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs to determine outcomes in terms of learning change, impact and professional role competency and revises future plans based on trends, evidence, and changes in learner expectations.
  • Provides feedback to supervisors and managers on the clinical competency and professional performance of team members.
  • Serves as an educational resource to work groups, task forces, committees, and projects relating supporting clinical practice, policy, procedures, and programs.
  • Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices, policies, and procedures to ensure that nursing and the organization's goals and mission are in alignment.
  • Maintains required educational and/or clinical competencies and training records. Assures documentation of individual and team educational plans are retrievable upon request.
  • Applies the educational process by selecting evidence-based educational content, materials, and techniques that can appeal to a diverse target audience and create a positive learning environment.
  • Serves as an influential leader in inter-professional learning, professional growth, and practice change throughout the organization.
  • Conducts, encourages, facilitates and/or participates in research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement.
  • Develops processes for monitoring the integrity of educational activities including screening for potential and unethical behavior, commercial bias, copyright infringement, and conflict of interest.
  • Identifies and addresses ethical issues within the learning environment. Maintains clinical competency in area of specialty; actively engages in and role models ongoing personal professional development.
