About The Position

The Cardiology RN works directly with the Cardiology Physicians and Nurse Practitioners. RN serves as a personal contact for physicians, staff, patients and outside departments in order to address problems, issues or concerns that require attention. RN will educate patients on importance of medication compliance, routine periodic lab work and preventative measures. Will also follow up to ensure cardiology patients are up-to-date on testing, preventative measures, and follow up accordingly. Will assist with coordinating care- diagnostic studies, labs, referrals and hospital admissions. The RN will triage patient phone calls and recognize and report new and urgent signs and symptoms. RN will also triage patients that present to clinic with symptoms without an appointment. The RN will provide guidance to other RN's, LVN's, MA's, device techs and other clinical staff. Ensures compliance with policy to maintain HIPAA, safety and infection control standards. Complex, independent problem solving when overseeing clinical staff which may overlap into multiple sub-specialties within Cardiology. (General Cardiology, Interventional, Electrophysiology, Heart Failure and ACHD) Hybrid opportunities exist per operational needs. Other duties as assigned. Essential Duties: The RN manages the physiological and behavioral functioning combined with psychological and social support as related to the patient’s cardiac condition. The priority of the professional activity is toward the improvement and/or maintenance of this state. The RN classifies the patient’s condition based on physiological, psychological, and social risk morbidity and mortality to predict the amount of work required based on the application of the steps of the professional process. The professional process is composed of six core steps (data collection, data assessment and nursing diagnosis, plan, implementation, evaluation, and patient teaching) used to manage the patient condition for the purpose of the treatment of human responses to actual or potential health problems, with the characteristics of altered functional ability and altered lifestyle, reducing risk of morbidity and mortality, and increasing the opportunity for recovery. The RN demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. The professional RN practices according to USC Keck Medical Center collaboration principles and demonstrates respectful teamwork and delegation. Participates in ongoing Departmental Process Improvement projects. Supports continuous and ongoing customer satisfaction through the hospital wide service excellence standards. Completes initial and annual skills validations. Functions as a patient advocate. Assesses a patient’s knowledge base/understanding of their diagnostic and/or interventional procedure. Plans, with the patient, the course of their testing/treatment in coordination with physician. Assists with the performance of cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures in the Special Procedures Lab. Provides for continuous evaluation of patient care through the nursing process and patient satisfaction evaluation form. Educates patient/patient’s family about procedure and treatment according to each patient’s individual needs and documents results. Documents accurately, on chart, procedures performed and patient’s tolerance. Provides for own professional growth regarding trends in clinical nursing, equipment and procedures through formal and informal continuing education. Supports continuous and ongoing customer satisfaction through the hospital wide service excellence standards. Completes initial and annual skills validations. Functions as a patient advocate. Assesses a patient’s knowledge base/understanding of their diagnostic and/or interventional procedure. Plans, with the patient, the course of their testing/treatment in coordination with physician. Requirements

Bachelor's degree Graduate of an accredited RN Program. (BSN)
1 year Minimum one year Cardiology experience in the outpatient setting required.
In lieu of outpatient cardiology experience will require minimum one year acute care experience in Cardiology/Telemetry Unit
Demonstration of excellent organizational skills as well as interpersonal skills
Experience in data management
Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing) Valid California Registered Nursing license
Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

Nice To Haves

One year acute care experience in General Cardiology immediately prior to application preferred
Advanced Certification Advanced certification recognized by the ANCC included not limited to CVRN preferred.
