About The Position

Responsible for providing professional nursing care to clinic patients following established standards and practices. Assists physician and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physician. Administers chemotherapy treatment under the direct supervision of physician.

Responsibilities

• Provides high-quality nursing care to patients.
• Administers prescribed medications, including but not limited to chemotherapy and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
• Maintains chemotherapy area for necessary supplies and materials.
• Ensures cleanliness.
• Prepares list of medical supplies needed and gives to appropriate person to order.
• Greets and transports patients to the chemo department in a timely manner.
• Prepares patients for treatment.
• Screens patients for appropriate information.
• Instructs patients in collections of samples and tests.
• Documents all patient information in intellidose and electronic medical record.
• Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
• Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.
• Always reviews patient records and other pertinent information prior to visit, including physician orders.
• Posts tests and examination results.
• Provides emotional support for the cancer patient and their family.
• Ensure patient needs are met safely, equitably and reliably with sincere behavior.
• Verifies medication with another chemo nurse that it is exactly as written on physician order.
• Verifies with patient their name and date of birth before administering medications.
