Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in skills applicable to designated area within probationary period.
  • Demonstrated ability to assume Charge Nurse responsibilities and clinical expertise in area.
  • Successful completion of a management course prior to appointment, or within six (6) months of employment.
  • Certified in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Two (2) years recent experience in specialty.
  • Completion of the Charge-Preceptor course at Northside.

  • Certification in area of specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily activities and distribution of work in area during scheduled shift.
  • Acts as a professional educator and resource for new employees, demonstrating clinical expertise and competence.
  • Participates in direct patient care activities approximately 80% of the time.
  • Handles Charge-Preceptor duties approximately 20% of the time.
  • Works with clinic specific patient population including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Sets priorities based on the situation at hand.
  • Combines direct patient care, management (charge), and education (preceptor) roles with responsibility for a unit during an eight (8) hour shift.
