The charge nurse leader is responsible for the assessment, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of safe and effective patient-centered care during their assigned shift. This role involves facilitating, precepting, and mentoring staff and team members to foster professional growth and advance their knowledge and skills. The charge nurse continuously assesses unit needs to ensure adequate resources for current and upcoming shifts, collaborating with various clinical and nonclinical departments to coordinate timely patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. Professionalism, adherence to regulatory and policy requirements, engagement with standards of practice, and holding team members accountable for safe, competent practice, quality care, and continuous improvement are paramount.
