The best women's hospital in Los Angeles is looking for current RN candidates to staff Operating Room, Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby care units to be housed in our expanding new patient tower facility scheduled to open next year. Requirements

  • Graduate of a Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approved nursing program or equivalent curriculum.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work in a union environment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card (AHA).
  • Specialty certification from a nationally recognized organization relevant to area of practice required or obtained within 1 year of hire or promotion to Charge Nurse.
  • Los Angeles County Fire Card (or obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Assault Response Competency (ARC) (within 30 days of employment).

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Two years of RN experience in an acute care environment, one of which included charge and or preceptor responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Makes appropriate staff assignments based upon patient acuity, staff competencies, and abilities.
  • Understands needs and sets priorities for their shift.
  • Provides professional leadership and direction of department personnel in order to maintain efficient delivery of effective patient care.
  • Makes appropriate and consistent evaluation of priorities throughout the shift and makes adjustments as necessary to maintain satisfactory operations.
  • Is an excellent staff role model for professional nursing practice.
  • Supports and enhances the leadership skills of the staff RNs, MT's and CNAs.
  • Interprets hospital policies to employees, patients, families and physicians.
  • Champions new ideas; actively collaborates with others through the change process.
  • Acts as a resource and mentor to new employees/transfers, registry, travelers, students, and other team members.
  • Collaborates with or refers to manager/clinical coordinator/educator any outstanding issues or concerns on the unit.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify, resolve, and prioritize problems during their shift.
  • Supports compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Participates in activities related to patient flow, including admission and discharge processes.
  • Facilitates inter-professional/interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
  • Serves as a resource for clinical concerns.
  • Possesses experience and skills to be a resource for providers, RNs, MT's, USs/CNAs.
  • Actively involved in assigning, coaching, and educating staff as needed.
  • Participates in audits and ensures that documentation reflects thorough assessments.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of patients' specific conditions commonly seen in the department and care required.
  • Interfaces with leadership, peers, physicians, other healthcare providers, and support staff to improve care delivery as necessary.
  • Champions and motivates other staff in quality improvement in patient care, workflow, and improvement in clinical initiatives.
  • Adjusts staffing needs of the department to assure quality patient care.
  • Models Work Place Safety principles and practices.
  • Acts as a role model for staff regarding providing a patient care experience that exceeds patients' expectations.
  • Ensures timely and appropriate management of patients.
  • Supports the smooth transition for patients across the care continuum.
  • Participates in daily leadership rounds, documents rounding activities on unit rounding logs.
  • Ensures a supportive collaborative environment through communication.
  • Lead/facilitate daily/shift multidisciplinary huddles.
  • Confronts difficult or conflict situations constructively and seeks appropriate assistance.
  • Provides recommendations to management for resource allocation.
  • Collaborates and assists with leadership, physicians, and peers in staffing, workflow and throughput to promote quality patient care.
  • Attends Charge Nurse Educational programs.
  • Takes responsibility for professional growth and development.

Benefits

  • Full-Time position with 36 weekly hours.
  • Night shift from 6:45pm to 7:15am.
  • FTE of 0.9.
