About The Position

Nestled on the Central California Coast, Adventist Health Sierra Vista has been providing care to our community since 1959. Our 162-bed acute care facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and county designated trauma center. Job Summary: Works with the charge RN & CV techs to assure coordination and provision of nursing care to patients on specified units and specified shifts. Assists with cardiovascular and other invasive studies or treatments. This position is represented by CNA.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree(A.S.) or equivalent: Required
  • IABP competent or able to become so within 6 months of hire: Required
  • Three years recent clinical cardiology or cardiovascular experience: Required
  • Current RN license in state of practice: Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support): Required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice: Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support): Required within 6 months of hire or transfer: Required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Preferred
  • One year invasive cardiac cath lab experience. Two years recent critical care experience. Previous cath lab experience.: Preferred
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS OR HS-PALS OR RQIPALS) certification: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Consistently performs comprehensive, advanced clinical patient assessment before, during and post procedure, demonstrating an awareness of age specific and diagnosis related differences.
  • Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations.
  • Is competent in (1) arrhythmia recognition and treatment, (2) hemodynamic monitoring, (3) care and maintenance of arterial access sites, (4) ventilator management.
  • Is competent to (1) provide care to patients using the intra-aortic balloon pump, (2) monitor and maintain patients with multiple titrated drips, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the pharmacological interactions and effects of each, and (3) manage the care of patients requiring cardiac pacing.
  • Is competent to monitor patients receiving conscious sedation.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of equipment used I.e. Pulse oximeter, ACT machine, hemodynamic monitor, CO, ACC database computer, and be able to troubleshoot routing problems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the principles of asepsis and consistently utilizes correct aseptic technique.
  • Is competent to scrub for all cardiovascular procedures.
  • Consistently provides procedure related education to patients and/or their families.
  • Provides pre-procedure education regarding the differing roles and responsibilities of cath lab team members.
  • Uses teaching methods appropriate to the condition, culture and assessed learning readiness of the patient.
  • Completes legible, accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided to patients, including an evaluation of patients, response to medications, treatments and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in arterial/venous catheter/sheath removal with assessment of potential problems and implements appropriate interventions.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and recognition of complex hemodynamics I.e. gradients, valve area calculations, resistances, and pathology related waveforms.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
