About The Position

The position involves assisting physicians and staff with the daily coordination of patient care, acting as a liaison between patients, staff, and physicians. The role focuses on maintaining efficient patient flow, delivering direct patient care, and ensuring proper preparation for patient visits. The individual will be responsible for collecting lab specimens, obtaining vital signs, documenting care in the EHR, and scheduling appointments, all while adhering to safety protocols and departmental guidelines.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • New Jersey State Nursing License and BLS certification required.
  • 0 - 1 years experience; 2-4 years experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform diverse work assignments with time limitations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to use problem solving, critical thinking and priority setting skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail) preferred.
  • Experience with Standard Office Technology in a Windows-based environment preferred.
  • Experience with patient care equipment preferred.
  • Experience with EHR, Practice Management System and Departmental/Ancillary Systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the physician and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and physician access.
  • Function as the liaison between patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Maintain efficient patient flow.
  • Deliver direct patient care within the scope of licensure and in accordance with SMG policy.
  • Collect lab specimens according to departmental guidelines and accurately label specimens.
  • Prioritize patient care by implementing physician orders and nursing procedures.
  • Prepare pertinent information needed for patient visits.
  • Effectively communicate problems, concerns, or issues to the Office Supervisor/Manager.
  • Ensure all patients are correctly identified prior to providing and/or documenting care.
  • Employ appropriate and timely use of Tasking in EHR.
  • Obtain vital signs: BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required.
  • Document appropriately in EHR.
  • Administer injections according to appropriate protocol and document injections accurately in EHR.
  • Demonstrate telephone triage protocols and document in EHR.
  • Schedule appointments appropriately and accurately according to department guidelines.
  • Adhere to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposing of medical waste.
  • Review and update medication list in EHR.
  • Demonstrate understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures.
  • Accurately document known allergies in EHR.
  • Enter orders and schedule appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR.
  • Provide referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner in the PMS and EHR.
  • Check and maintain logs for emergency equipment according to policy.
  • Facilitate transition of care to UCC/Hospital.
  • Maintain proficiency with department-specific equipment, troubleshoot, and report malfunctions promptly.
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining all supplies as assigned.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with various work schedules.
