About The Position

The position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the CT8 Cardio/Pulm/Med/Surg unit, which has a total of 50 beds divided between two sides. The patient population primarily consists of cardiac patients, including those with cardiac drips and post-cardiac procedures, as well as pulmonary patients and medical-surgical overflow. The unit serves adults over 17 years of age, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6. The department culture emphasizes strong communication and teamwork among staff to provide high-quality care, especially in collaboration with the Heart and Vascular Institute. The unit is fast-paced and requires nurses to be skilled in various nursing procedures and equipment, including full assessments, cardiac drips management, and pre/post-procedural care.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
• Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in Illinois.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year of hire.
• Associate's Degree or Nursing Diploma.
• Minimum of 1 year of RN work experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service.
• Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
• Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided.
• Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care.
• Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
• Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
• Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards.
• Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues.
• Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers.
• Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solution.
• Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
• Manages care of acute and chronically ill cardiac and pulmonary patients.
• Collaboratively identifies patient goals of care and designs care plans.
• Implements interventions including medication administration and evaluation of effects.
• Prepares patients for procedures, pain management, IV venipuncture, blood administration, and monitors labs.
• Discharges patients and provides instruction for safe transition from hospital.
• Documents all care using EMR.
• Ensures team huddles are occurring.
• Evaluates patients and delegates with appropriate follow-up.
• Answers call lights and ensures basic care is done per standards of care.
• Manages conflict and maintains professional communication with all team members.
