About The Position

The Transport Nurse at Texas Children's Hospital is responsible for providing quality nursing care, treatment, and stabilization of critically ill patients during transport. This role requires collaboration with medical control and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safety and well-being of patients while they are moved to a higher level of care. The Transport Nurse must demonstrate critical thinking skills and maintain effective communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing or an associate degree in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program.
  • Current RN license by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • BLS certification by the American Heart Association.
  • PALS certification by the American Heart Association (required within 4 months of hire).
  • NRP certification by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association (required within 4 months of hire).
  • ACLS certification by the American Heart Association (required within 6 months of hire).
  • CNPT certification (required within 18 months of hire).
  • CCRN certification (required within 18 months of hire).
  • 3 years of critical care experience in a pediatric or neonatal intensive care setting or 3 years of Pediatric Emergency Center experience in a Level 1 trauma center with CPEN certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for critically ill patients including neonates, pediatric, and adult patients.
  • Demonstrating critical thinking skills to autonomously evaluate critically ill patients and provide necessary interventions.
  • Collaborating with healthcare team members to implement treatment modalities and interventions to maximize patient outcomes.
  • Maintaining complete and accurate records of patient care and treatment.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, families, and colleagues, and serving as a patient/family advocate.
  • Ensuring smooth and safe program operations, including equipment checks and inventory management.
  • Participating in quality initiative programs and research activities.
  • Maintaining professional development and clinical competence across all aspects of the Transport Services scope of service.
