About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a collaborative health care organization focused on improving patient care and the lives of Arkansans through education, research, and clinical programs. The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL) Child Diagnostic Unit provides effective direct care to a variety of patients as part of an interdisciplinary team, based on licensure, title, and competencies. The RN is expected to seek and provide feedback for improved clinical practice, integrate theory and research into practice, and provide leadership to the nursing team to maintain patient care standards. The RN works under the direct supervision of the Clinical Services Manager (CSM). Promotion is based on years of experience, satisfactory performance appraisals, and manager recommendation. Employees must complete UAMS-sponsored conflict management training within six months of hire.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with an Associate's Degree in Nursing, Nursing Diploma, Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, or Master's Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Registered Nurse experience
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Arkansas
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong work ethic and accountability
  • Successfully complete a UAMS-sponsored conflict management training to identify, prevent, and mitigate disruptive behaviors using methods such as non-escalation, de-escalation, personal protection from physical assaults, and physical alternatives within six months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • 2 or more years of Registered Nurse experience
  • Current BLS

Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care for patients within the limits of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Arkansas and adhere to institutional policies, procedures and standards.
  • Adhere to the standard of care defined by UAMS, ANA, and Standards for specialty patient population with support and mentoring by other team members.
  • Collect and document assessment data.
  • Develop a Plan of Care (POC) per standard.
  • Implement POC including medical order and interdisciplinary approach.
  • Evaluate the progress of patient toward attainment of desired outcomes.
  • Provide effective patient/family education/discharge planning.
  • Administer medication per standard including drug information to patients/families.
  • Act as a resource/support others.
  • Deliver patient care using the principles of the defined nursing modality.
  • Delegate care based on UAMS standards, legal and regulatory requirements, specific job description and individual level of education and training.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment that is conducive to clinical education while serving as a resource for student nurses and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
