About The Position

The RN Bedside Telemetry position in the Heart Failure unit at Penn Medicine involves providing comprehensive nursing care to patients, particularly those with cardiac issues. The nurse will be responsible for assessing patient needs, administering medications, and utilizing telemetry monitoring to support patient recovery.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
  • Current Pennsylvania RN License.
  • CPR certification required.
  • ACLS certification required, or must complete within 12 months of hire.
  • Basic computer skills including data entry and internet use.
  • Ability to practice critical thinking and organizational skills.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preferred, but training and specialty education programs are provided during orientation.
  • Certification in clinical specialty is preferred.
  • Dysrhythmia Interpretation Required Annually.

Responsibilities

  • Provides age-appropriate care considering growth and developmental phases.
  • Uses appropriate resources for patients with special needs.
  • Ensures attention to patient's physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being.
  • Demonstrates competency in assessment skills, including admission and shift assessments.
  • Performs pain assessments and intervenes to meet patient's comfort needs.
  • Plans clinical care based on patient needs and available resources.
  • Performs clinical care in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Performs peripheral venipuncture and vascular access care according to policy.
  • Evaluates outcomes of nursing interventions and takes appropriate actions.
  • Identifies situations that warrant patient rescue and takes appropriate action.
  • Adheres to the 5 rights of medication administration and uses the Medication Administration Check system.
  • Integrates principles of infection control into practice.
  • Adheres to aseptic technique as appropriate.
  • Uses resources for reviewing policies, medications, and clinical information.
  • Prioritizes and organizes work effectively within assigned shift.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in arrhythmia interpretation and intervention.
  • Administers medications and infusions as ordered, demonstrating knowledge of cardiac pharmacology.
  • Collaborates with healthcare providers about care and treatment of telemetry patients.
  • Demonstrates understanding of telemetry monitoring equipment.
