The Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology provides comprehensive, evidence-based diagnosis and treatment for adults and children with a wide range of allergic and immunologic conditions, including asthma, food allergies, eczema, rhinitis, anaphylaxis, sinusitis, hives, angioedema, immunodeficiencies, chronic cough, drug allergies and more. As an RN in the Allergy and Immunology Clinic, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care from initial introduction to final send-off, providing professional nursing care to a diverse patient population in an ambulatory setting. In this role, you will work in all areas of skin testing, allergy shots and serum mixing. You will also interact directly with patients, families and visitors, enhancing their experience and providing healthcare information as needed. A caregiver in this role works days from 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • One year of recent experience as an RN OR LPN, Medical Assistant and/or other unlicensed clinical healthcare experience if applicant is a current Cleveland Clinic caregiver in an ambulatory setting transferring into an RN role but remaining in the same current ambulatory Cleveland Clinic setting OR a current Cleveland Clinic caregiver in a clinical role within the same specialty area transferring into an ambulatory area

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Prior leadership and/or strong LPN experience
  • ER experience
  • Prior allergy experience
  • Two to three years of experience as an RN
  • Inpatient or ambulatory experience with adult patients

Responsibilities

  • Assess health status by completing a nursing assessment.
  • Perform telephone triage.
  • Notify physicians/LIPs of abnormal findings.
  • Establish a care plan in collaboration with the patient, family, and health care team.
  • Collaborate with care coordinators to ensure smooth and effective transitions of care.
  • Assist with specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered by physician/LIP and monitor patients for response.
  • Initiate CPR and other emergency measures.
  • Provide health education to patients and families.
  • Develop, evaluate, adapt and document education to learning needs.
  • Participate in quality initiatives, process improvements, and research activities to improve patient outcomes, patient experience and patient safety.
  • Maintain professional growth and development in the nursing field and identify annual core competencies.
  • Mix serums for allergy shot prescriptions and perform allergy skin testing.
