We are recruiting for the following position: Sea Mar is a mandatory COVID-19 and flu vaccine organization Job Title RN-I Position Summary This position is responsible for coordinating pre and postnatal risk assessment, teaching, and appropriate referral, for Sea Mar OB clients and eligible First Steps clients who receive OB care outside of Sea Mar. Teaching may include the following: fetal development, normal changes in pregnancy, warning signs, importance of and expected course of medical care, sexuality/reproductive, nutrition, elimination, activity/exercise, sleep/rest, self-perception, role/relationship, coping/stress, values /beliefs, family planning, breastfeeding, and childbirth preparation. Contact is initiated prenatal and a thorough nursing assessment is completed including referrals as needed to nutrition, social work, mental health, community service agencies, and/or medical providers. Assessments, health messages, and education continue throughout the pregnancy with a minimal goal of one face to face visit each trimester and postpartum. The MSS RN performs early postpartum home visits or office visits. This person is responsible for triaging pre and postnatal needs of each client and scheduling visits and including all members of the Sea Mar MSS team and may include non-Sea Mar providers as needed. Active participation in community-wide efforts/coalitions to provide ever-improving comprehensive interdisciplinary care to pre and postnatal clients is expected. The productivity expectation for this position is 18 to 20 encounters per week for full time.

Requirements

  • The person in this position must be of good character and able to maintain the understanding, physical health, emotional stability and personality suited to meet the physical, mental, emotional, and social needs of the population served.
  • Must have good organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate boundaries in all interactions.
  • The person in this position shall have no history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of three (3) years prior to the date of employment at the facility, and no misuse of alcohol or other drugs while employed at this facility.
  • This individual cannot be a person who has been convicted of a felony within the last seven years or ever been convicted of child abuse and / or any crime involving physical harm to another person nor be a perpetrator of substantiated child abuse.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.
  • Two year Associate degree or three year diploma in nursing with documented continuing education in maternal child health nursing in the community setting (e.g. lactation specialist, NCAST training, DV, chemical dependency) and two years’ experience in community health nursing, serving pregnant women and children.
  • OR Two year Associate degree or three year diploma in nursing with limited experience in the community health setting. A one year training/clinical supervision and mentoring by an experienced RN who is providing First Steps Program for at least 2 years.
  • Washington state Registered Nurse license by D O H under Chapter 246-840WAC.
  • Must have and maintain a current Employee Health Screening and CPR certification.
  • This person must pass a Washington State Patrol background check.
  • A valid Washington driver’s license and active motor vehicle insurance.

Responsibilities

  • The MSS RN assesses and observes client and family needs with regards to understanding of pre and postnatal care and educates accordingly.
  • Consultation and coordination of client care is done on a regular and as needed basis with other professionals involved utilizing a team approach to comprehensive services.
  • Ongoing demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and to recognize cultural, environmental and socio-economic factors that may affect a client’s ability to receive, comprehend and retain information is essential to performance.
  • The MSS RN must be comfortable yet professional in the client’s home setting with ability to set and maintain personal boundaries.
  • Must be able to perform independently and at the same time perform effectively and professionally as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Must preserve client confidentiality at all times.
  • Participation in monthly providers meetings.
  • Attend Community First Steps meetings quarterly.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Able to identify and categorize each patient’s age-specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, or geriatric patients.
  • Must document all nursing visits in the client MSS EHR.
  • Must be able/willing to work with translators if not bilingual (Spanish).
