This role provides technical supervision and direction over the administration and disposition of worker's compensation and multi-line liability claims.

Requirements

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, risk management, insurance or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible risk management or claims experience.
  • At least 3 years supervisory experience with at least 2 years managerial experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications Required: Valid Colorado Drivers’ license
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of applicable state to workers' compensation laws and division rules.
  • Knowledge of the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act and the principles of public entity liability.
  • Knowledge of principles of auto liability, commercial property, and cyber liability claims.
  • Understands best practices in claims handling for worker's compensation and multi-line claims.
  • Understands applicable federal and state laws and regulations applicable to all lines of insurance coverage.

  • Associate in Claims (AIC), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).

Responsibilities

  • Establishes short- and long-term divisional priorities, goals, and objectives with the Senior Risk Manager.
  • Supervises workers’ compensation adjusters, provides guidance on complex claims, evaluates and recommends how to resolve indemnity claims, including settlement positions.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and recommends acceptance or contest of workers' compensation claims.
  • Supervises multi-line claims adjusters who handle general and auto liability, auto physical damage, and property claims.
  • Reviews and evaluates multi-line claims and recommends resolution/settlement or denial of claims.
  • Works with insurance carriers to obtain reimbursement for covered claims above the self-insured retention.
  • Assists the multi-line adjusters with bodily injury settlement negotiations and evaluations to present to management.
  • Generates reports from the Risk Management Information System as requested by management and other departments.
  • Provides claims data at the request of various state agencies, including statutory required reports to the Division of Workers’ Compensation.
  • Presents risk management training to new employees and current supervisors, including on-the-job injury procedures.
  • Selects, trains, evaluates, and monitors performance of staff.
  • Coordinates with in-house and outside legal counsel on litigation matters and updates insurance carriers as needed.
  • Presents recommended settlement evaluations to the Senior Risk Manager and City Attorney’s office.
  • Monitors legislative and judicial actions affecting risk management operations.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
