Watch to learn more Job Summary The purpose of this position is to develop, implement, interpret and manage policies, procedures and programs designed to mitigate risk and potential liability associated with University activities and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible risk management experience including claims management experience required.
  • Ability to clearly and professionally communicate orally and in writing, detailed information to persons with varyin, familiarity of campus procedures, insurance terminology and protections, loss control techniques, state regulations and potential outcomes.
  • Ability to objectively review facts and information and in consultation with University managers, legal counsel, other University agents, develop risk management strategies and recommendations on behalf of the University).
  • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Nice To Haves

  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM) – National Professional Designation or Designation as a Certified Risk Manager (CRM).
  • Risk Management experience in the public sector.
  • Valid CA driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Risk identification, assessment and minimization: Serves as the primary contact for the campus community and general public for campus-related risk management issues.
  • Tort liability and insurance program management: Manages all claims, except workers’ compensation, by providing information to claimants on processes, coverage limits and exclusions.
  • Legal Holds: Responsible for drafting legal hold notice advising campus individuals that they may be called to provide information and preserve all documents that may be called upon for any lawsuits against the CSU. Coordinates electronic legal hold requests with Information Technology.
