About The Position

The Risk Manager is granted the authority to effect immediate correction(s) of life-threatening conditions, and in particular, violations of life safety code, Joint Commission, NFPA, HRS and other regulatory agencies. Has access to all medical records, medical staff records, physical plant documents, and any other records necessary to carry out the position's functions and has authority to comply with statutory reporting requirements KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for managing claims against the facility, interfacing with defense legal counsel, administering the risk management and safety management programs on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk and safety data, conducting risk and safety educational programs, complying with Joint Commission applicable standards, and assisting with insurance and risk financing, all with the objective of controlling and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the facility.

Requirements

  • Familiar with the operations of the healthcare industry and healthcare delivery systems and/or the Florida legal system
  • Able to use abstract judgment and critical thinking skills to draw valid conclusions based upon less than common variables.
  • Able to organize information, people, and resources.
  • Able to function under pressure and with multiple deadlines, use good judgement and to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Assertive, motivated and able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Remaining flexible when priorities change.
  • Able to comprehend instructions, policies and procedures.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills; basic computer literacy required.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in State law regarding risk management, quality and peer review processes.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the scientific approach and currency in Joint Commission accreditation requirements and processes.
  • Experience in Peer Review and other health care regulatory agencies required.
  • Understanding of the principles of continuous quality improvement required.
  • Previous experience in Risk Management, Performance Improvement and management/supervisory.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with all levels of the organization
  • Current Florida Healthcare Risk Management License preferred
  • Master's degree in health management or MBA preferred.
  • Possess three or more years of healthcare experience .
  • Able to utilize Word, Excel, and PowerPoint computer programs for reports and presentations.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills; basic computer literacy required
  • Current Florida licensure as a Health Care Risk Manager Registered Nurse license highly preferred
  • Must clear background and drug test required.

  • Certification in quality assurance or ARM designation ideal
